NYSX General Auditions
October 7 - October 8
New York Shakespeare Exchange announces general auditions for upcoming projects in 2019 and beyond. Auditions, by appointment only, will be held on October 7 & 8 in NYC. Interested actors should submit headshots and resumes to Casting@NYSX.org. Submissions will be accepted through September 30.
Our productions are largely ensemble-based and all actors who wish to be considered should be interested in engaging in the rehearsal process with a great level of creative imagination. NYSX is committed to challenging the boundaries of “traditional casting” for works of the classical canon. We seek with every round of auditions to connect with a broader, deeper, and more diverse pool of talent, and we encourage submissions from actors of all ages, ethnicities, gender identities, physical types and abilities. Prior experience with classical text is essential.
Actors seen at these auditions will be considered for roles in ShakesBEER (our highly interactive Shakespearean Pub Crawls); The Sonnet Project (our anthology short film series based on Shakespeare’s 154 sonnets); our upcoming production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (January/February 2019); and a variety of workshop/developmental projects. Everyone seen will also be added to our company files for consideration in future seasons.
If contacted for an appointment, actors will be asked to prepare two contrasting pieces of text (2min each):
1. A speech from Shakespeare or one of his contemporaries, IN VERSE.
2. A speech from ANY PERIOD that uses language richly, reaching beyond everyday conversation/exposition. Verse is optional.
Union/non-union. Stipend for all performers regardless of union affiliation.
TO SUBMIT, EMAIL YOUR HEADSHOT AND RESUME TO email@example.com.
