NY Shakespeare Exchange explores the relationship between Shakespeare’s canon and some of today’s most popular comic books. Does our pop-culture fascination with superheroes affect the way we see Shakespeare’s characters? Does Deadpool’s fourth-wall-smashing or Peter Parker’s inner monologue bring Hamlet’s soliloquy into sharper focus? Why do comic books and Shakespeare seem to share such a profound freedom for repeat adaptation?

Freestyle Labs from New York Shakespeare Exchange combine performance and town hall discussion to create a unique evening of theater. Like a Colossus will kick off with performed excerpts from Shakespeare and the vast universes of Marvel and DC, then move into a lively discussion with a panel of experts. The evening will end with a Q&A with the audience.
